The generation and accumulation of various types of waste is an inseparable part of human life and activity. The structure and quantity of waste changes with the progression of civilization. The increase in quantity and the problems that are associated with wasted (removal, transport, collection and processing) have become an area of concern that is increasingly noticed. The need to solve these issues has lead to the development and implementation of policies and actions. Most legal acts are a manifestation of the European Union’s along with individual national waste management policies and environmental policies. The policies define objectives and principles of conduct in the field of waste management at various levels, taking into account environmental protection requirements and other legal regulations.
One of the main requirements that need to be met is the need to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste sent to landfill (Article 3c. of Act on maintaining cleanliness and order in municipalities from September 13th 1996).
